NEWARK, California – April 5, 2016 – Morpho (Safran), through its subsidiary Morpho Detection, today announced it has become the first global manufacturer to ship its 2,000th advanced hold baggage explosives detection system (EDS).

The high-speed CTX 9800 DSi™, destined for London Heathrow Airport, is part of a contract announced in April 2015 to supply 45 explosives detection systems (EDS) to screen all in-gauge baggage in four terminals. Once fully deployed, Heathrow will operate the largest fleet of CTX EDS outside of the U.S. The pioneer and global leader in leading-edge EDS solutions and service quality, Morpho Detection’s CTX™ family of EDS have been trusted by airports around the world for more than 20 years.

Addressing Morpho Detection employees in Newark, U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15) said: “Congratulations to the men and women of Morpho Detection on this achievement and for your contributions to the safety and security of the traveling public. The cutting-edge technologies and solutions developed here are important examples of how the diverse, educated and talented workforce of this area impacts the world. As a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence I know firsthand the evolving threats the U.S. and our allies face. Through strong collaboration between the public and private sectors, we can meet these challenges by facilitating the development of advanced security technologies and capabilities.”

Beginning with its first U.S. certification in 1994, all six generations of CTX EDS have achieved TSA certification by meeting stringent requirements for both throughput and detection. Most recently, the compact CTX 5800 and high-speed CTX 9800 received approval from the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) as meeting Standard 3 requirements and certification by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). Throughout this time, hundreds of expert engineers and technicians have worked tirelessly to set the industry standard for detection, reliability and service.

“Morpho Detection is proud that our customers have recognized the heritage and superior detection capabilities of the CTX platform by propelling us to this milestone and our industry-leading position,” said Karen Bomba, president and CEO, Morpho Detection. “We are thrilled to have a global leader in passenger traffic and security like Heathrow put their trust in Morpho Detection and join us today to celebrate this important milestone for aviation security.”
