NEWARK, Calif. – October 14, 2015 – Morpho (Safran), through its subsidiary Morpho Detection, today welcomed Congressman Mike Honda (CA-17) to its global headquarters in Newark, California.
As part of the event, Rep. Honda toured Morpho Detection’s manufacturing and research and development (R&D) facilities and held a town hall meeting with employees. In Newark, Morpho Detection develops and assembles the CTX™ family of explosives detection systems (EDS) currently deployed to screen the majority of checked baggage in the U.S., and a growing number of countries. The town hall highlighted Morpho Detection’s commitment to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education and addressed its impact on the local community and the aviation security industry.
“Morpho Detection is honored to welcome Rep. Honda and thanks him for his long-standing support of local businesses and STEM education,” said Karen Bomba, president and CEO, Morpho Detection. “By encouraging students to pursue STEM-focused careers we will help educate and train engineers, technicians and scientists who will develop the next generation of detection systems to protect people and property.”
To support students on the STEM educational path, Morpho Detection recently awarded scholarships to two graduating high school seniors in Newark, California and two in Andover, Massachusetts—the company’s two main facility locations in the U.S. In addition, award recipients have the opportunity to participate in internships at Morpho Detection which offers real-world experience and career training.
Commenting on his visit and the importance of STEM education, Rep. Honda said: “Morpho Detection shows how Silicon Valley’s leadership in areas of innovation is critical to our national security. Morpho’s exemplary work helps keep millions of people safe and sound as they travel through our airports each day. STEM education is a crucial part of growing the economy and creating the next generation of leaders and problem solvers, and I was pleased to visit Morpho Detection and see how it is supporting STEM-related education and career paths. Through my seat on the powerful House Appropriations Committee, I will continue to push for additional resources to support STEM education.”
A global leader in hold baggage explosives detection systems (EDS) and explosives trace detectors (ETD), Morpho Detection’s solutions are currently deployed at airports, air cargo screening facilities, border crossings, military installations, critical infrastructure sites and secure locations around the world.
