Upgrading to Standard 3-approved explosives detection systems (EDS) takes resources and planning. The question then becomes, how to continue delivering a high level of customer service, while providing similarly high levels of security. A recent article in Aviation Security International Magazine provides insights from Monty Lutzker, our Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

In the article, Lutzker discusses how his teams are helping European airports meet the challenges of delivering high levels of security without slowing operations down.

“It’s an ongoing process,” he says. “We continually analyze where the threats are coming from and how they’re evolving. We then collaborate with regulators and our airport partners to deliver solutions designed to meet current and future threats, all while maintaining operational efficiencies.”

In preparation for any transition or upgrade, it’s important to solicit input from all relevant stakeholders. This lets them know their voice has been heard, while also providing valuable input that can help smooth out the process.

“The first major decision point in the process is selecting your EDS supplier,” Lutzker says. “This allows us to work with all the stakeholders and selected BHS partners to figure out the best way to integrate these systems into your airport’s infrastructure.”

Once a decision has been made, it takes cross-team commitment to ensure success. Here are a few of the key areas Lutzker’s team focuses on when implementing new systems that will also allow airports to deliver the highest level of support to customers:

  • Listening to concerns
  • Collaborating with partners
  • Addressing the needs of small spaces
  • Dealing with complexity of airport environments

When airports prepare effectively, the transition to new explosives detection systems delivers important benefits such as reduced operational false alarm rates and improved efficiencies. Benefits which make it attractive for airports to get started on their system upgrades now.
