Newark, California. – Aug. 31, 2010 – Morpho Detection, Inc., part of Morpho, Safran group's security business, today announced the installation of six CTX 9400 DSi™ explosives detection systems (EDS) at the newly constructed Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), one of the largest airport terminal buildings in the world.

The CTX 9400 DSi systems are the first in India to utilize the advanced imaging capabilities of computed tomography (CT) technology for aviation security. This technology not only helps to ensure the security of travelers but also has a low false alarm rate, allowing screeners to positively identify threats while expeditiously examining all baggage.

Morpho Detection, Inc., part of Morpho, Safran group's security business, this week launched a data collection study of its next-generation ShoeScanner™ at Indianapolis International Airport (IND), one of the final steps in preparing this solution for regulatory approvals.

The data collection will take place at Indianapolis International Airport's pre-security Civic Plaza and is expected to provide critical insights into real-world operational requirements. Morpho Detection's X-ray Diffraction-based Explosives Detection System First to Achieve EU's Standard 3 for Baggage Screening

X-ray Diffraction's low false alarm rate and reduced need for manual inspections dramatically improves screening effectiveness, detection performance and passenger convenience

Brussels – July 19, 2010 – Morpho Detection, Inc., part of Morpho, Safran group's security business, today announced its XRD 3500™ has become the first X-ray Diffraction-based explosives detection system (EDS) to be tested and evaluated by the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) as meeting the ECAC Standard 3 technical specifications, the requirement for complying with the European Union's Standard 3 for hold baggage screening.

As a result of this milestone, EU airport operators and security organizations can meet tomorrow's EDS mandates with a system that is standards compliant through 2012 and beyond. Beginning in 2012, Standard 3-certified EDS systems will be the preferred screening solution at EU airports. Future mandates will include a Standard 3 certification requirement.

Using XRD technology, the XRD 3500 can accurately distinguish explosives from non-threat materials in luggage without the need to open the bag or remove its contents. Additionally, the XRD 3500's extremely low false alarm rate results in a simplified inspection process. XRD technology identifies materials based on their molecular composition, not densities or other less distinctive characteristics. As a result, the XRD 3500 can identify potentially threatening substances in many forms – including powders, solids and liquids – where other technologies cannot.

TSA Again Selects Morpho Detection's Next-Generation Itemiser® DX Desktop Explosives Trace Detection System for U.S. Airports

Newark, Calif. – May 25, 2010 – Morpho Detection, Inc., part of the Safran group's security business, today announced an order with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the second in the past year, for more than 1,200 additional Itemiser® DX explosives trace detection (ETD) systems. This order from TSA, which represents the largest single unit order in company history, is valued at more than $35 million and was awarded after a competitive contracting process.

First placed on TSA's Qualified Products List for checkpoint and cargo screening in March 2009, the Itemiser DX delivers qualified explosives detection in a desktop package that is portable, reliable, cost effective and easy to use. Utilizing Ion Trap Mobility Spectroscopy (ITMS™) technology to provide unparalleled threat and contraband detection, the Itemiser DX is optimal for checkpoint, cargo, and checked baggage screening.

This follow-up order brings the total number of Itemiser DX units purchased by the TSA in the past year to more than 1,600 as part of contracts valued in excess of $50 million.

Morpho Detection and London's Heathrow Airport Partner to Fight Narcotics Smuggling

X-ray Diffraction technology pinpoints narcotics in bags, reducing manual inspections

Newark, Calif. – March 23, 2010 – Morpho Detection, Inc., part of Safran group's security business, today announced the deployment of the world's first automatic narcotics detection system, the XRD 3500™, at London's Heathrow Airport. Deployed in Germany for automatic detection of explosives in baggage, Morpho Detection has partnered with the U.K. Border Agency to program the machine for Class A narcotics detection.

Select baggage arriving in the U.K. from high-risk narcotics producing and trafficking countries is put through the XRD 3500 system, which can pinpoint the exact location of potential narcotics without opening bags or disturbing contents. The only baggage-screening system with the technology to find drugs in bags automatically, the XRD 3500 reduces the need for canine and hand searches. Previously, each suspect piece of luggage was manually inspected, taking as much as 30 minutes per bag.

“The XRD 3500 system improves our capabilities to fight narcotics entering the U.K.,” said Richard Tomsett, manager, Emerging Technologies Team, U.K. Border Agency. “Reducing the time it takes to inspect each piece of luggage has allowed us to deploy our resources more broadly, expanding the number of bags we are able to search.”
